Central Colorado Humanists Sunday Science program for Oct. 4

“Good Fats, Bad Fats” is the title of the Central Colorado Humanists Sunday Science Program for Oct. 4”. Alicia McLeod will unravel the confusing information that has been distributed over the past 30 years about fat in our diets.

We’ve heard many different views about fat in those 30 years. Eggs are too high in cholesterol! Oh no they are OK. Dairy fat is OK if it is from pasture raised cows. And how about seed oils? Many of us were raised on butter and canola oil. And aren’t all fats high calorie? But wait, they are plentiful in the Keto diets for weight loss. The good news is that nutrition scientists keep investigating and updating advice. We do need fat in our diet; it is essential for hormone production and many other physiological processes. This Sunday Science talk will shine some light on the science supported facts and how to apply that knowledge to your diet.

Alicia McCleod graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics and Food Administration. She then acquired a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Holistic Health Education from John F. Kennedy University in California. Her healthcare career has included the field of weight loss, senior nutrition, nutritionist for an international company, and, most recently, Nutritional Health Coach for Natural Grocers. Her passion is to support people to take responsibility for their wellness, and to help them to move towards vibrant health - mind, body and spirit.

Sunday Science takes place at A Church in Salida, at the corner of 4th and D Streets. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the talk will start at 10 a.m. Admission is free so join us. The Sunday Science Hospitality Committee welcomes any contributions to the “treat table,” including fruit and baked goods
