Important Election Information

ELECTION UPDATE Ballots for the November 7, 2017 Coordinated Election will be mailed October 16, 2017.

The ballot you receive in the mail is your official ballot and the ballot you vote and return to the County Clerk’s Office for processing. Ballots are mailed to all Active Eligible Voters. As soon as you receive your ballot you may vote the ballot and return it by dropping it off or by mailing it back.

If you mail your ballot back, remember to allow enough time for the ballot to reach our office. Postmarks do not count. All mail ballots must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

**Voting your mail ballot**

1. You will receive a ballot, secrecy sleeve, instructions and return envelope. 2. Make your choices for candidates and questions. 3. Use a blue or black pen that will not bleed through the paper to vote your ballot. Completely fill in the oval next to your choices. 4. If you do not want to vote the entire ballot, simply mark only the selections you want and leave the rest blank. 5. Remove the green one-inch stub from the top of the ballot at the perforation. The stub can be discarded. If you forget to remove the stub, an election judge will remove it before the ballot is scanned and tallied. 6. Place your voted ballot in the secrecy sleeve that came with your ballot. 7. Place the ballot and secrecy sleeve in your return envelope addressed to the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder, PO Box 699, Salida, CO 81201. 8. Seal the envelope. 9. Sign the signature affidavit located on the back of the envelope. This is required in order for your ballot to be processed. Election Judges do signature verification on all mail ballots.

We highly recommend that you return your mail ballot by dropping it off at one of our convenient drop-off locations: • Inside the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 104 Crestone Ave., Salida • Curbside in front of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 104 Crestone Ave., Salida. This outside ballot box is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting October 17, 2017. • Inside the Clerk and Recorder’s Motor Vehicle Branch Office at 112 Linderman Ave., Buena Vista. • Outside the Motor Vehicle Branch Office at 112 Linderman Ave., Buena Vista. This outside ballot box is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week starting October 17, 2017.

You may also mail back your voted ballot using the envelope provided and a standard Forever Stamp (49 cents postage.)

New for the 2017 Coordinated Election Chaffee County voters can track their ballot with our new free service, BallotTrax. Voters can sign up at chaffeevotes.ballottrax.net and receive voice, email or text alerts regarding your ballot status. Notifications will be sent to your when your ballot is delivered by the post office and when we receive it back ant the Clerk’s office. If you forgot to sign your envelope, we will alert you. If you ballot was undeliverable, we will alert you. When you ballot is accepted by the Judges for tallying, we will alert you.

QUESTIONS REGARDING YOUR MAIL BALLOT: What if my ballot does not arrive? If your Coordinated Election ballot does not arrive by October 30, 2017 please call the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder’s Election Office, 719-539-4004, or stop by at 104 Crestone Ave. in Salida to obtain a replacement ballot.

I spoiled my ballot, now what do I do? Please call the Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, 719-530-5606, or stop by the office at 104 Crestone Ave., Salida, to obtain a replacement ballot. Beginning Friday November 3, 2017 you may also visit the Voter Service and Polling Center in Buena Vista at 112 Linderman Ave., between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to obtain a replacement ballot.

What if I don’t want to vote my mail ballot and want to vote in person? Beginning October 30th you may vote in-person on a flat paper ballot or on an accessible voting machine at the Salida Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) in the Clerk’s Office at 104 Crestone Ave. from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This VSPC will also be open Saturday November 4, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Beginning November 3rd you may vote in-person on a flat paper ballot or on an accessible voting machine at the Buena Vista Voter Service and Polling Center in the Motor Vehicle Branch Office at 112 Linderman Ave. from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This VSPC will also be open on Saturday November 4, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Election Day Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
